IRON SHARPENS IRON

The SPEAKER pro tempore (Mr.
WIED). Under the Speaker’s announced
policy of January 3, 2025, the gentlewoman from South Carolina (Ms.
MACE) is recognized for 60 minutes as
the designee of the majority leader.
GENERAL LEAVE
Ms. MACE. Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent that all Members may
have 5 legislative days in which to revise and extend their remarks and include extraneous material on the topic
of this Special Order.
The SPEAKER pro tempore. Is there
objection to the request of the gentlewoman from South Carolina?
There was no objection.
Ms. MACE. Mr. Speaker, I rise today
to call out the cowards who think they
can prey on women and get away with
it. Today, I am going scorched Earth.
Let the bridges I burn this evening
light our way forward.

Mr. Patel is the one who created a

list of deep state individuals. This is
like Russia kind of stuff, half of whom
are Republicans in the so-called deep
state. Then he called them ‘‘nothing
more than a cabal of government gangsters and their allies.’’This is the Department he is going to
be leading, really. He is the one who
said ‘‘thank you to President Trump
for helping put so many government
gangsters in their place.’’

Durbin then asked Ms. Bondi about her views on President-elect Trump’s FBI Director nominee, Kash Patel, whom she praised in the first round of questioning. When asked about the QAnon conspiracy movement, whose core belief is that a cabal of Satanic, cannibalistic child molesters, embedded within the government, are conspiring against President-elect Trump, Patel said that he“agree[s] with a lot of what that movement says.”

“Does that sound like a good preparation to run the FBI?” Durbin asked.

Ms. Bondi responded that while she has heard of QAnon, she has not heard the definition Durbin laid out and that he will have to ask Mr. Patel about it—failing to condemn Patel’s comment.

“We will [ask him about his comments on QAanon], and until we get answers to those questions, I don’t know many on this side of the table [who] will give him unequivocal endorsement,” said Durbin. “This and his enemies list, what when he calls his ‘government gangsters.’ This is what you expect of Stasi, this is what you expect of the secret police. It is not what you expect of justice in America—as you’ve even described it at the table today. This unequivocal support of Mr. Patel should have some reservation until he explains some of these outrageous positions he has taken.”

To Durbin’s remarks, Ms. Bondi stated that she “looks forward to hearing his testimony about QAanon in front of this Committee.”

Attorney General Nominee Pam Bondi Testifies at Confirmation Hearing, Part 1
Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R, 2011-19) testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee during a confirmation hearing for her to serve as U.S. attorney general in the Trump administration. "My overriding objective will be to return the Department of Justice to its core mission of keeping Americans safe and vigorously prosecuting criminals -- and that includes getting back to basics," said Pam Bondi. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle questioned the nominee on how she would run the Department of Justice, with Democrats voicing concerns about her ability to be independent of President-elect Donald Trump and Republicans voicing concerns about weaponization of the Justice Department. A variety of topics were discussed, including reducing recidivism, restoring integrity in the Justice Department, consumer safety, and the TikTok app.
