Working on the independent Christian film “The Lying Machine” – which was filmed in Michigan – was a real learning experience for Donna Frazier.

“This was my first movie. … Movies are not filmed in order. I found that out quickly,” Frazier says, laughing.

A 60-year-old grandmother of seven and retired pre-school aide from Rochester Hills Christian School, Frazier started acting almost a decade ago, performing in community theater. When she saw an ad for “One Nation Under God” – the movie’s original name – she sent in her information. Joseph Zabrosky, who heads up Howell-based studio Our Father Productions, which released “The Lying Machine,” called her to audition for Patricia, the female lead.

“I was very surprised and humbled to get the role, as it was my first movie,” says Frazier, a Sterling Heights resident.

The plot of “The Lying Machine,” which Zabrosky starred in, directed wrote, edited and produced, shows how a homeschooled boy changes a public school by teaching the teachers about America’s founding fathers and the nation’s Christian heritage. It also looks at the forces and various groups – some in the government – intent on changing what’s written in the history books.

“Thus, the title ‘The Lying Machine,'” Frazier says.
